Get ready for a fast-paced day of family fun and excitement as markets, soapbox racing and outdoor cinema come together on Saturday 5 September for a fantastic day out in Dunstable.
The day begins in the town centre with The Square and Middle Row Markets (LU6 3SN) from 9.30 am. Visitors can browse a great selection of local stalls offering crafts, gifts, food, treats and plenty more.
Families can also get involved with the free Brick Racers activity. Children and adults alike can build their own racing car from bricks before putting it to the test on the track. The fastest racers will even have the chance to take home a special branded winner’s photo. It’s a great opportunity to support local traders, enjoy some shopping, and soak up the lively atmosphere in the heart of Dunstable.
Then, from 12 noon, the excitement moves to Priory Gardens (LU6 3RZ) as Dunstable Town Council’s much-loved Soapbox Derby gets underway.
This free family event will see teams race their incredible hand-built soapbox karts down a specially designed 100-metre track, competing for the fastest time and the bragging rights that come with it. Every kart is packed with character and creativity, making the event just as entertaining to watch as it is competitive.
Visitors won’t miss a second of the action, with a giant screen showing the races live throughout the afternoon. Whether you’re cheering from the trackside or relaxing in the gardens with family and friends, there will be plenty of thrills and excitement to enjoy.
The fun continues with a special outdoor cinema experience, featuring screenings of Zootopia 2 (PG) at 3.15 pm and F1: The Movie (12A) at 5.15 pm. It’s the perfect way to round off a busy day.
From supporting local traders and building Brick Racers to cheering on the soapbox teams, enjoying live entertainment or settling down for a movie, there really is something for everyone.
So, mark Saturday 5 September in your diary and join us from 9.30 am on The Square and 12 noon in Priory Gardens for a fantastic day of free family fun, community entertainment and soapbox racing in Dunstable.
