As we head towards the end of September, there is still plenty happening in Dunstable for residents of all ages. From fascinating local history and community activities to fundraising events and creative sessions, there are lots of reasons to get out, get involved and enjoy everything our town has to offer.
For those interested in Dunstable’s fascinating past, Teatime Tales takes place on Thursday 24 September, from 2.30 pm to 4 pm at Grove House. Hugh Garrod will explore the history of Dunstable’s Augustinian Priory from 1120 to 1540, sharing stories about the people and events connected to this important part of the town’s heritage. Tickets are £6.
On Friday 25 September, the Town Mayor of Dunstable, Cllr Richard Attwell, will host an evening of friendly competition, good food and fundraising at the Mayor’s Quiz Night, taking place at Dunstable Cricket Club. Gather your friends, form a team of up to six and put your knowledge to the test across a range of fun quiz rounds. Tickets are £15 for fish and chips or £10 for sausage and chips, with all proceeds supporting the Mayor’s chosen charities.
Then, on Sunday 27 September, history comes to life with The Stories Behind the Headstones. Meet at 10.30 am outside West Street Cemetery for a fascinating guided walk introducing some of the people buried there since the cemetery opened in the 1830s. Hear stories of notable Dunstablians, a murder victim, a remarkable wartime woman and others whose lives helped shape the town. Tickets are £5.
If crafting is your thing, why not join the friendly community-led crafting session at Bennett’s Café and Community Hub every Thursday from 6 pm to 8 pm? It’s a great opportunity to get creative, meet like-minded people and enjoy a relaxed evening together. The sessions are completely free, with food and drinks available to purchase.
