Dunstable is set for an unforgettable day of celebration on Saturday 16 May, as two colourful events come together to create a full day of culture, community, and family fun.
From 9.30 am to 3.30 pm, head to Middle Row Market and The Square for Love Your Local Market, where visitors can celebrate and support local traders. The market will be filled with a fantastic range of stalls offering delicious food, unique gifts, and handmade goods, all within a lively and welcoming atmosphere. It is the perfect opportunity to shop local, meet traders, and enjoy the vibrant buzz of the town centre.
As part of the celebrations, there will be plenty of free activities for all ages. Enjoy free table football on The Square and take part in friendly competition, with medals awarded to the winners. Families and children can also get creative at the free craft stall, where they can make their own Love Your Local Market hearts. Take part in the ‘Love Our World’ trail, which runs from Middle Row to Priory Gardens, complete the trail and receive a free goodie bag.
Just across the road, the celebrations continue in Priory Gardens from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm with the spectacular Around the World event. Visitors are invited to leave their passports at home and step into a global journey as the park transforms into a celebration of cultures, traditions, and creativity from around the world.
The event features an exciting programme of performances and workshops, including Polynesian dance, Chinese folk dance, Colombian dance, and Native American drumming and storytelling. Families can also enjoy hands-on cultural activities, crafts, and storytelling experiences throughout the day.
Children will love the giant panda walkabout, puppet-making workshops, and the popular Sam O’Shanty puppet show. Adding a surprising twist, dinosaurs will also take over Priory Gardens, creating a unique prehistoric adventure.
Additional highlights include the Lion Dance and face-changing performance, the lively Wild West Fest, and appearances from community groups such as the Shizen-No Judo Club. Food stalls, drinks, and sweet treats will be available throughout the site, along with sensory bags for hire at Priory House Gift Shop, helping to create a more comfortable and inclusive experience.
Together, these events create a vibrant, jam-packed day of entertainment, culture, and community spirit in the heart of Dunstable.
