More than 175 residents aged 65 and over, gathered in Grove House Gardens on Tuesday 16 June for a fantastic afternoon of food, music and community spirit at Dunstable’s annual Big Lunch.
Guests were treated to a delicious afternoon tea with refreshments as they spent time with old and new friends.
The atmosphere was fantastic, thanks to a brilliant line-up of live music that kept everyone entertained:
- George Anthony kicked things off with an incredible set of classic Soul, Motown, R&B, and Disco hits.
- The Wilsons Show kept the energy high with their signature 1950s and 1960s Rock ‘n’ Roll, Soul, Motown, and Country tunes, alongside crowd-pleasing favourites from Elvis, Grease, and Dirty Dancing.
Beyond the food and music, the event served as a helpful information space for attendees to access. Several organisations had information points to chat with residents and offer advice on wellbeing, safety, and local services. Community members were able to connect with:
- Good Life Sorted (Event Sponsor)
- Central Bedfordshire Council Community Safety Team
- The Chatty Café Scheme
- Age UK Bedfordshire
- Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue Service
- Bedfordshire Police
Dunstable Town Mayor, Councillor Richard Attwell, expressed his delight at seeing the community come together.
"It was wonderful to see so many of our older residents enjoying themselves. Events like this truly showcase the very best of community spirit, bringing people together to build lasting friendships and celebrate the collaborative spirit of Dunstable. I would like to say a special thank you to our council officers, all the local businesses, performers, organisations, and volunteers whose fantastic support and contributions made this day such a wonderful success." Dunstable Town Council would like to thank everyone who attended the event, including the event sponsor Good Life Sorted, all Dunstable Town Council staff, the Amazon Volunteers, Event Production Live, Tesco Extra Dunstable, businesses who donated towards the raffle and all the brilliant organisations who provided vital information to residents on the day.
