On Tuesday, 2 December, the heart of Dunstable came alive with festive creativity as the annual Christmas Window Competition took place. This year’s event saw a record forty-eight shops and businesses competing for the grand prize, an advert in Talk of the Town.
The competition was judged by Councillor Richard Attwell, Deputy Town Mayor, alongside the Trainee Town Centre Assistant. Together, they walked the high street, admiring the dazzling displays. Each window was evaluated on four key criteria: creativity, use of lights, incorporation of products, and curb appeal. The judges faced a particularly tough challenge this year due to the exceptional effort and imagination shown by all participants. From twinkling fairy lights to carefully arranged merchandise, each shop offered its own unique take on the festive season.
The competition also included a Facebook public vote, inviting the community to choose their favourite display. This interactive element added an exciting dimension to the event, encouraging the public to visit the town centre, celebrate and engage with the businesses that make Dunstable’s high street special.
This record number of participants highlights the growing enthusiasm for the competition, and the pride local businesses take in showcasing their creativity during the Christmas season.
The winners are:
Public Facebook vote – Dunstable Cake House
The Deputy Mayor’s 1st choice - Cakes by Claire Kelly
The Deputy Mayor’s 2nd choice – Dunstable Eye Centre
The Deputy Mayor’s 3rd choice – Tufty’s Flowers and Cards
The judges wanted to give a special mention to the following shops:
The Geek The Witch The Wardrobe, Tates Tours, Angliss Carpets and Urban Rural on their fantastic windows.
We would like to extend a huge congratulations to all who took part, thank you for showing that Dunstable Town Centre is loved and well worth a visit.
