Dunstable Celebrates Kindness at the Town Mayor’s Civic Service

Posted on

On Sunday 1 March, dignitaries, community groups and residents gathered for the Civic Service held by the Mayor of Dunstable Councillor Sally Kimondo. The event served as a powerful moment of reflection, gratitude, and celebration, honouring a year defined by the theme of "Kindness."

This years’ service held historical significance, as Cllr Sally Kimondo concludes her term as the first Black Mayor of Dunstable. Her tenure has been defined by a dedication to supporting her chosen local charities CHUMS and Hospice at Home Volunteers.

The Mayor highlighted the guiding principles that shape her term: open communication, accountability, inclusivity, collaboration, integrity, community building, and visionary leadership.

The Civic Service culminated in the presentation of awards to three individuals who have gone above and beyond in their service:

  • Tommy Spratt from the Salvation Army Band: For his enduring musical contribution of over 50 years and supporting the town through community events.
  • Kayte Hollis from Dunstable Sea Cadets: For her unwavering support and leadership to the Dunstable Sea Cadets and her incredible dedication and commitment to the town’s Remembrance Parade.
  • Laura Sproson from Growbaby: For her tireless voluntary work and support for providing essential resources to families in need.
"I’ve chosen kindness as my guiding theme, for it is a powerful tool that can transform lives," the Mayor stated. "It requires nothing of us financially, but its impact can be immeasurable….I urge each of you to be mindful and kind to one another.," the Town Mayor Cllr Sally Kimondo shared during the proceedings. " Your actions, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in someone's life. Together, we can create a kind and compassionate Dunstable, where everyone thrives and feels supported.’’ Town Mayor Cllr Sally Kimondo

The success, energy and warmth of the afternoon were made possible by the generous support of COM Church. The Town Council and the Mayor wish to extend their deepest thanks to the church for facilitating and supporting the event. Special gratitude is shared for Chaplain Julian Richards and Sarah Richards, whose hosting ensured a welcoming and spiritually uplifting service that resonated with everyone in attendance.
