Your Rewards
- Competitive salary
- Local Government Pension Scheme
- Enhanced Staff Benefits including flexible access to your wages
- Generous annual leave entitlement
Passionate about culture, heritage, events and making a difference in your community?
Dunstable Town Council is looking for a creative, enthusiastic and organised Cultural Services Assistant to help develop and deliver our growing cultural offer across Dunstable.
This is a varied, hands-on role for someone who loves turning ideas into reality.
You could be developing a new activity at Priory House, working with local creatives and community organisations, helping deliver an event, promoting our cultural programme on social media or identifying funding opportunities for an exciting new project.
If you’re passionate about culture, creativity and community, we’d love to hear from you.
What You’ll Be Doing
Working closely with the Cultural Services Manager and colleagues across the Council, you’ll help develop cultural opportunities that are inclusive, diverse and accessible to our community.
You’ll be involved in:
- Planning and delivering events, workshops, functions and activities at Priory House.
- Helping develop Priory House as a heritage destination, including supporting the use and development of its exhibition space.
- Supporting cultural events, activities and projects delivered by teams across Dunstable Town Council.
- Building relationships with artists, creatives, community organisations and cultural groups.
- Developing partnerships and supporting opportunities for volunteers to get involved.
- Identifying potential grants and external funding opportunities and assisting with applications, reports and budgets.
- Collecting data and information to help us understand our audiences, demonstrate impact and plan future services.
- Marketing and promoting the Council’s cultural programme through social media, websites, print and other channels.
- Understanding different audiences and finding creative ways to increase engagement and participation.
- Setting up and supporting events, functions and workshops, including some evening and weekend activity.
- Acting as Duty Manager at Priory House when required.
About You
We’re looking for someone with ideas, enthusiasm and a genuine passion for culture.
You’ll be equally comfortable talking to members of the community, working with creative organisations, putting together a social media post, helping organise an event or getting hands-on to prepare a space for an activity.
You’ll have experience – either paid or voluntary – within culture, heritage or community development, alongside experience of project management.
You’ll also bring excellent written and verbal communication skills, confidence using Microsoft Office and social media, and the ability to work calmly and flexibly when things get busy.
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who is:
Creative. Collaborative. Organised. Inclusive. Full of ideas.
Someone who understands that culture can bring people together and wants to help us create opportunities that make a positive difference to Dunstable.
Experience within local government isn’t essential, however, we’d particularly welcome applicants who have experience of running events, workshops or activities, external funding and grant applications, or financial management.
A Role Where You Can Make an Impact
This isn’t a role where you’ll spend every day doing the same thing.
You’ll help us develop new ideas, grow audiences, create partnerships and find new ways to make Dunstable’s cultural offer exciting, relevant and accessible.
You’ll also play a part in improving the economic sustainability of Priory House and supporting cultural activity at locations across the town.
The role includes regular evening and weekend working, particularly around events and activities, with additional hours paid or taken as time-off-in-lieu in accordance with Council arrangements.
Help Shape Dunstable’s Cultural Future
If you’re passionate about arts, heritage, events and community, have great ideas and want a role where you can see the impact of your work, this could be the opportunity for you
