Dunstable is celebrating national success after being awarded Gold at the 2026 RHS Britain in Bloom Awards, held in Rochdale. Representing the Anglia region as a finalist in the Large Town category, Dunstable’s Gold award recognises the outstanding work taking place across the town and the collective efforts of everyone involved in Dunstable in Bloom.
Britain in Bloom judges Roger Burnett and Dale Hector visited Dunstable in August to assess this year’s entry, meeting volunteers, community groups and organisations involved in making the town greener, brighter and more sustainable. During their visit, the judges were particularly impressed by the children of Ashton St Peter’s, who received a Special Highlight for their enthusiasm, dedication to their school garden and brilliant conversations with the judges on judging day.
Representatives from Dunstable Town Council and Dunstable in Bloom travelled to Rochdale for the national Awards Ceremony, joining 43 other finalists from across the UK to celebrate excellence in horticulture, environmental responsibility and community spirit.
The ceremony gave another honour for Dunstable, as John Crawley, who recently retired as Dunstable Town Council’s Head of Grounds and Environmental Services, received a Community Champion Award in recognition of his lifelong passion for horticulture and exceptional contribution to the In Bloom movement.
John joined the Town Council in 2019 and played an important role in Dunstable’s success in recent years. His dedication, vision and enthusiasm have helped inspire volunteers, enhance green spaces and strengthen the town’s involvement in the In Bloom movement.
“Receiving Gold at the RHS Britain in Bloom Awards is a fantastic achievement for Dunstable and something our whole town can be incredibly proud of. What makes Dunstable in Bloom so special is the way volunteers, schools, community groups, local businesses, partner organisations and our Town Council teams work together to make Dunstable a better, brighter and more sustainable place. A huge thank you must go to everyone who has contributed to Dunstable in Bloom. This Gold award belongs to the whole community.”
Town Mayor of Dunstable Cllr Richard Attwell
Dunstable’s success reflects the enormous community effort behind the annual campaign, from planting and maintaining displays to improving green spaces, supporting environmental projects and encouraging residents of all ages to take pride in their town.
Dunstable Town Council and Dunstable In Bloom would like to thank everyone who played a part in the 2026 campaign, including volunteers, schools, community organisations, local businesses, partners, residents and Council staff.
Together, their hard work has helped Dunstable bring home Gold and achieve national recognition at the 2026 RHS Britain in Bloom Awards.
