Christmas officially begins in Dunstable on Friday, 28 November, with the return of the much-loved Christmas Carols and Torchlight Procession which will included the Christmas Tree Switch-On. This event takes place from 7 to 8.30 pm, The Square will come alive with festive cheer as the Dunstable community and local schools gather to sing, celebrate, and welcome the start of the Christmas season. Sponsored by Penrose Estate Agents, this magical evening promises music, lights, and plenty of Christmas spirit for all ages.
The event will feature performances from over 350 children representing 12 local schools, joining together to sing traditional carols accompanied by the Priory Church Choir, Dunstable Ladies Choir, and the Dunstable Salvation Army Band. The sound of carols will fill The Square as families sing along, meet Father Christmas, and take part in the exciting countdown to the lighting of the town’s Christmas tree. Once the lights are officially switched on, a spectacular light show finale, will bring the evening to a dazzling close.
Along Middle Row, visitors can enjoy a tempting selection of festive food and drinks. Traders will serve seasonal favorites such as warm mulled wine, hot chocolate, roast potatoes, pizzas, burgers, and street food, perfect for soaking up the Christmas atmosphere. Don’t forget to visit our local shops, which will be open during the event, including Priory House, Alexanders, Sala, and The Coffee Pod.
Please note that High Street South will be closed from the crossroads junction of West Street, Church Street, and the A5183 to Friars Walk between 6 and 9 pm, with a diversion in place.
