A Taste of Christmas Through the Ages

Get inspired this Christmas with morning festive cookery demonstrations and sampling sessions by Seren Charrington-Hollins or join her in the afternoon as she explores the origins of Christmas and provides a taste of Christmas past.
10:00am – A history of the Christmas Dinner – a display of a ‘traditional’ Christmas dinner and demonstration on how to make the perfect festive feast. Seren will serve up some exciting ideas to help you prepare to cook your Christmas dinner with an historical twist! First, Seren will prepare a delicious starter and a show you how to get that traditional ham just perfect, followed by some Victorian ways with vegetables and stuffing that are guaranteed to whet your appetite.
12:00 noon – Take the Mince Pie – a look at how the mince pie has evolved, there will be a chance to sample some authentic mince pies and a demonstration of how to create perfect ones at home.
1:30pm – Home-spun Christmas
A chance to see a demonstration of how to make edible decorations for the tree
2:00pm – Christmas Past in Dunstable – a look at how we shopped and prepared for Christmas over the past 100 years in Dunstable and a reflection over the changes. Followed by some sampling of historic festive dishes.
3:00pm – An Historic Feast
Seren will prepare a simple yet very tasty historic dessert will explain it’s history finish up by creating an appetising dish for the days after Christmas using up all that leftover turkey!
**Local produce will be used where possible and Recipe Cards will be available for you to take away, so that you can recreate the dishes at home. It promises to be a great day of food, chat and craic!
