Virtual Shopping a Town Centre Art!

As part of ongoing initiatives by the Dunstable Town Centre Management Committee to try and ensure the future of Dunstable's town centre, 'virtual shops' have been installed.

The 'virtual Shop' displays consist of vinyl window stickers that have been produced by local company Streetwise and funded by the Dunstable Town Centre Management Committee. They have currently been installed in two Central Bedfordshire owned vacant shop units in the Ashton Square and West Street areas, representing a café and shoe shop. The images give the impression of  trading businesses in order to make the area feel more vibrant and more attractive to visitors and businesses. As well as presenting a mock shop front, the displays include the telephone number of Central Bedfordshire Council for the leasing of the units and it is hoped that tenants can be tempted to open businesses in Dunstable town centre. In the meantime it is also hoped that other property owners and landlords will realise the potential benefits of these 'virtual shops' and invest in similar measures.
