Dunstable Town Centre Action Plan
The development of a short term action plan for the Town Centre Management Committee, has been an important step in demonstrating that the local authorities and business community are working together to resolve some of the issues that are affecting the town centre.
Following on from a recommendation from the Dunstable Town Centre Management Committee, a meeting was held on 15 November 2007 at the grove Theatre in Dunstable aimed at generating ideas that would help regenerate Dunstable town centre.
The workshop examined factors that influence the dynamics of a town centre under the following headings:
The town centre trading environment and the public realm
Safety and security for both businesses and users
Transport and access
Marketing promotion and events
Heritage / arts and the social scene
Business development and innovation
Following on from the workshop an action planning meeting of the Town Centre Management Committee was held on 22 January 2008, where Members prioritised the suggested actions from the workshop and approved the development of an action plan. The action plan was formally adopted at the Dunstable Town Centre Management Committee meeting on 18 March 2008. The action plan assigns direct responsibility to specific organisations and officers and is owned and monitored by the Management Committee. The plan assists in informing future spending for capital and revenue resources allocated to the Committee.
The development of a short term action plan for the Town Centre Management Committee, has been an important step in demonstrating that the local authorities and business community are working together to resolve some of the issues that are affecting the town centre. However, the action plan must be viewed as the first stage in a series of longer term measures that will need to take place in order to ensure that Dunstable’s town centre trading environment becomes as dynamic as possible.
