Dunstable Joint Committee Shop Front Accreditation Scheme 2017
Following the success of the inaugural Shop Front Accreditation Scheme for 2016, the Dunstable Joint Committee has again promoted the initiative for 2017.
2017 is the second year of the scheme to acknowledge businesses whose shop fronts contribute positively to our town centre and encourage others to think about kerb appeal. Businesses were therefore invited to sign up to have their premises judged worthy of accreditation, or a visit from DIY SOS!
A total of 24 businesses signed up this year to take part in the scheme to have their frontages judged on criteria including cleanliness, maintenance, display and signage, an increase on the number of businesses who signed up last year.
The judging took place on the afternoon of Wednesday 16 August 2017 with the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Dunstable Joint Committee and Mayor of Dunstable visiting each premises in turn.
If businesses met the minimum criteria they were awarded Bronze accreditation with those exceeding the criteria having the potential to be awarded Silver, or even Gold!
A full breakdown of the criteria is available on the Dunstable Town Council website: http://www.dunstable.gov.uk/shop-front-accreditation-scheme.htm
So, what are the benefits for the businesses taking:
- Bronze, Silver or Gold accreditation with certification and a sticker to display at the premises.
- Free advertising from the promotion of the scheme (through council website, social media & Talk of the Town etc.)
- Encouraging more retail custom, highlighting the business and location
- Playing a part in creating a more pleasant environment to shop and trade in
- Encouraging other business to maintain their shop fronts
- Encouraging a sense of community
The results are in and it gives me great pleasure to announce that all twenty four businesses received accreditation. In addition, the great standard of entrants made it so difficult for the judges that they have added new Silver and Bronze Plus categories to reflect this. The results are as follows:
Lisa Roberts Catering
Brown & Wenman
Weld-Air Supplies Ltd
Hairs & Graces
PC Help Centre
The Dunstable Foot Clinic
Spicer & Co
The Sun Trap
A big thank you to all of those businesses who took part and o those who didn’t, please make sure that you don’t miss out on the opportunity in future.
Whilst the above list has some great examples of pride in Dunstable, there are many other business premises also worthy of note such as White Dove, Beards and Barbers, Brighton Beautiful, Timeless Interiors, Flexi-staff, The Way, Hand of Mysteries and The Bank to name a few.
To build on this initiative and encourage more businesses to take part, whether it is to promote a well-kept building or a reason to purchase a paint brush, it is hoped the scheme will be run again in 2018, with the addition of some new categories to encourage more businesses to take part.
The appearance of our town centre is something we can all impact positively on by working together. Making small changes can make all the difference!
