Dunstable Retains Green Flags

Grove House Gardens and Priory Gardens are among a record breaking 1424 parks and green spaces to receive Green Flag Awards in 2012

Grove House Gardens and Priory Gardens in Dunstable are still among the best parks and gardens in the country – and that’s official!

The award is a sign to visitors that the Gardens are well-maintained and well-managed, with excellent facilities. Both are considered to be high-quality green spaces in Dunstable.

Both gardens are among a record number of parks and green spaces receiving the Green Flag Award for 2012/2013, ensuring that even more of us now have access to well-managed, high-quality green spaces.

This is the third year running that Dunstable Town Council has achieved Green Flag status for Grove House Gardens and the second year running for Priory Gardens. Both gardens were inspected by Green Flag judges who also scrutinised the Town Councils plans for managing and developing the gardens over the next 5 years.

Councillor Terry Colbourne, Chairman of the Town Council’s Grounds and Environmental Services Committee, said:

“I am delighted that we have retained both our Green Flags for Grove House Gardens and Priory Gardens this year. These awards recognise the hard work that all our employees and our partners put into managing the Gardens to a very high standard so that local people can enjoy them all year round.

Mr David Ashlee, Town Clerk and Chief Executive, Dunstable Town Council, added:

“I am very proud of the Councils achievement in retaining the Green Flags again this year and hope that both gardens continue to be well used and respected by those visiting them”.

All award-winning sites now have the chance to receive a further award from the Green Flag Plus Partnership, the People’s Choice Award. This award is voted for by the public, so if you want to see your local park receive a national accolade as the people’s choice, then visit the Green Flag Award website now to register your vote.

If you would like to become a ‘Friend of Priory House and Gardens’ please call into the Priory House reception to collect further details and a membership application form.
