Current Teen Councillors:

Unlike the overall Town Council the Teen Council committee does not have a ward system as it has so far been felt that it would make communication more complicated between young people and the Teen Council. We do however have Teen Councillors from across Dunstable and across the age range:

Beth Roberts : Chair

Receives items for the agenda before each meeting, sets the agenda and ensures it is followed, and oversees its distribution at least 3 full days before the next (unofficial) meeting. The Chair also validates the meeting minutes, and serves as the main contact for the Teen Council.

Lynette Wieland : Vice-Chair

Supports Chair in general roles and fills in when the Chair is unavailable. Also is responsible for checking minutes’ accuracy, counting votes (assisted by the youth and community officer), and overseeing production and editing of the newsletter.

Sean Griffiths : Committee Attendees

Jodie Ward :

Attend Town Council sub-committee meetings and reports back to the Teen Council on matters important to young people.

Membership Organisation:

---NOVEMBER ELECTIONS ---

Currently there are 6 members of the Teen Council committee, though after November 1 st we’ll raise this number to 20 members. As a couple of members resigned shortly after the elections in November, new members have been co-opted since May 2007. Any resident of Dunstable aged 13-20. Election nominees with the highest number of votes will be given seats on the committee, until all the seats are filled. If some seats remain and no other nominees come forward, co-options can be done but this is only possible if few seats are left. Nomination forms are available for download from this website, and can be mailed/emailed to the Town Council (see Contacts section). All young people who live in Dunstable aged 13-20 can vote, and polling stations will be located at:

Dunstable Library

  • The Place
  • Queensbury School
  • Mansfield School
  • Northfields School
  • Dunstable College

Teen Councillors have a standard two year term of office, but every year half of the Teen Councillors terms will end to make way for the new elected young people (of course the Teen Councillors can be re-elected). This way the Teen Councillors who have been in office for a year can ‘mentor’ the newer members elected the year after, keeping our projects and other work flowing constantly between elections.

Within the Teen Council the Chairman and Vice-Chairman are elected through majority vote, the Teen Councillor with the most votes becomes the Chair and runner-up becomes Vice-Chair. The Chair and Vice-Chair have increased duties within the Teen Council, such as the writing of the agenda and minutes, overseeing production and editing of the newsletter and website, etc. Further details of our membership, election and the roles of our Chair/Vice-Chair can be found in our Constitution.
