Dunstable Town Council puts the heart back into Dunstable!

From the 1 June 2012 Dunstable Town Council will be managing Dunstable market, following a decision taken by Central Bedfordshire Council.  The market is currently managed by Wendy Fair Markets Ltd until their contract ends in May 2012.

Dunstable is historically a market town with a market charter relating to the Wednesday and Saturday markets. The additional Friday market was introduced by South Bedfordshire District Council under the Food Act.

Dunstable Town Council will ensure that all three market days continue and will be recruiting a markets team to deliver and develop this.  The Town Council is keen to improve the existing market and put the heart back into our town. We will immediately be investing in the market by purchasing new stalls for traders who currently have to provide, erect and dismantle their own.

In the run up to the hand over of the management of the market, Dunstable Town Council will be working with traders on various improvements and will also be actively seeking new traders.  Any one wishing to express an interest in trading from the 1 June should contact Clare Brett, Town Centre Coordinator 01582 890612

Councillor Jeannette Freeman, Chairman of Community Service Committee stated “The Town Council believes that a vibrant market is part of a thriving town centre and that the two work side by side.  We are committed to the regeneration of Dunstable Town Centre and therefore will be investing heavily to ensure that the market once again becomes the heart of our town.”
