For the third year running Dunstable Town Council recognised the efforts of young people in Dunstable. The youth achievement awards are in four categories: Sport, Community Involvement, Educational Attainment and Young Carer. From these four categories a Young Person of The Year is awarded.

The winner of the sport category: Kieron Wilkinson

Kieron has worked tirelessly at football, with his dedication and talent paying dividends. He has taken the step up from youth football where he was captain of Houghton Wanderers to playing at an adult level at Totternhoe and made it appear easy.
At present Kieron is completing a B-TEC in National Sport at All Saints Academy where he also plays for the 6th form football team.
During this time he applied for trials at the Football Showcase which has resulted in him being awarded a scholarship in America for Football USA, which he will attend once he has completed his B-TEC.

The winner of the Community Involvement category: Luke Daly

Luke is very actively involved in the community; he works hard in both his own community and in specific activities that benefit young people across the town.

Luke has been involved in making community events happen on Downside for example: The Winter Festival and The Downside Opportunities fair. Luke is also working as part of an outreach team where he has shown willingness and an ability to talk to people all ages about up coming opportunities.
Luke has overcome some personal issues and challenges and is working hard to remain confident in his own ability and charisma that will make him a successful community worker.

The winner of the Educational Attainment category: Daniel Bull

Daniel was an E2E student at Chiltern Business Training for Central Bedfordshire College. Before joining this programme he had, had a troubled past. Daniel chose to re-evaluate his situation and realised he needed to make some changes to his life in order to be successful.

Daniel joined the Chiltern Business Training and went from strength to strength; he gained qualifications in Maths and English, this resulting in Daniel this year gaining an apprenticeship.

Daniel has achieved all this by his own determination and dedication.

The winner of the Young Carer category: Kirsty Louise Patrick

Kirsty has been her mother’s carer from the age of 9, throughout her formative years she has missed a considerable amount of schooling by taking care of her mum, who suffers from a heart condition, compounded by diabetes, which has led to amputation.

Kirsty, despite missing a lot of school due to her caring responsibilities still managed to pass both G.C.S.E’s and A- levels with remarkable grades. These grades resulted in Kirsty being offered a place at Canterbury Christ Church University, which she started in September 2009, despite having to return home to care for her mother after a serious operation. Kirsty continues to keep up with her studies, attaining high grades and is a very deserving winner of the young carers category.

The overall winner of the young person of the year award was won by Daniel Bull.
